Oval: Enriching the lives of Youth in Our Community

VOLUNTEERS

"Our Volunteers are fundamental to

our success."

How Can You Help?

Part of our mission is to foster fun and creative programs for youth in a safe environment. Each program requires two adults present at all times. This is where we can use 'an extra pair of hands' in order that we meet our safe policy requirements. We are looking for Volunteers to either assist instructors or supervise during the delivery of our programs.

Volunteer Program Instructor

No youth should be discouraged to participate in any of our programs due to program fees. One way we can ensure this doesn't happen, is by looking to Instructors to volunteer their time that helps reduce program fees. Volunteer Instructors have the use of our facility free of charge.

Special Events

There will be times that our Centre will host special events like dances, art shows, musical and theatrical performances. etc. Like any large production, many hands are required to ensure it's success, and this is where we are counting on Volunteers to help the kids out.

Volunteer Apprenticeship

The provincial government has recognized the importance, value and impact volunteerism has on our communities both socially and economically. As a result, the compulsory Community Service Program for secondary school-aged youth was implemented. However, we can not presume all youth know how or where to volunteer their time.

We are looking for members of service clubs, non-profit organizations, churches, foundations or other groups who provide our community with volunteer activities to model  volunteer skills for GYC youth members and to also provide them with fun and creative volunteer opportunities. All hours that youth contribute to your organization can be credited to both their Community Service Program and for participating members of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award program.

Homework Help - We are looking for a team of volunteers to initiate and oversee this program. Could you offer an hour of your time once a week at the Centre to assist kids complete their daily homework assignments or perhaps a larger project? If you think this might be of interest to you, please contact Holly at 687-8985 for more details.

Kitchen Helper - We are looking for an individual who would be interested in volunteering there time to help run the YOUTH COOKING CLASS, Monday evenings from 3:30-6:30. If you are interested, please contact Holly at 687-8985 for more details.

Fundraising Activities

As a non-profit organization, we need to look for continuous financial support for the Centre and its activities. Youth will be actively involved in fundraising projects that will require adult supervision, support and participation. We are also eager to hear about your own fundraising ideas!

Screening

All adults working with youth must provide the Centre with a copy of their OPP check prior to participation. The Gravenhurst Youth Centre's  OPP Check policy is valid for 3 years. This check is free of charge for Volunteers.
